1. Always try and get the local feel by asking the locals where they would go for a meal or drink.
 
 
2. Try and gauge from outside what the place is like by looking in through the window. Does the staff look happy? Do they try and make everyone feel welcome? Does the food look appealing?
   
3. Nobody likes queuing, but if you can find a place that actually has a wait to be seated, that's a very popular place.
 
4. Always try to look at restaurant review site like Time Out or Just Arrived UK to guide you before you go out.
 
5. Every menu of a restaurant tells you a lot about the establishment- so make your judgement there. Social Networking Sites are a very good place to look for great tips to find restaurants in London.
